Act 48

All Pennsylvania certified teachers must complete 180 hours of continuing professional education every 5 years to maintain their certificates. The Professional Education Plan of the Diocese of Erie, approved by the PA Department of Education (PDE), is designed to meet the goals Catholic education in the diocese and the professional education needs of certified teachers employed by diocesan schools.

According to the Act 48 Professional Education Plan of the Diocese of Erie, and educator has a various options in fulfilling Act 48 requirements:

  • Collegiate Studies
  • Continuing professional education courses taken for Act 48 credit

Other programs, activities or learning experiences, including but not limited to:

  • Inservice sponsored by the Catholic Schools Office
  • K-8 curriculum development
  • 9-12 curriculum development committee
  • Middle States evaluation process
  • School-based administratively-directed study group
  • Teacher Induction Program
  • School-based Inservice
  • Inservice outside the school
  • National, state or local professional organization conference
  • Other programs sponsored by the PA Department of Education
  • Presenting at diocesan or school-based inservice
